iCity New Cairo
Located in northeastern Cairo, iCITY is a residential component of the government’s master planning effort to consolidate the capital city’s public sector entities within a new, vibrant urban district.
Composed of six expansive parks, each with their own unique offerings and character, the wildly popular residential community includes a school, sporting club, hotel, shopping mall, cultural hub, waterfront outlets, lagoon, farm and market. In conjunction with ensuring that residents have everything they need at their fingertips, one of the client’s major goals was to reduce the presence of vehicles and, thus, pollution on-site. The resulting master plan dedicates only 12% of land to a looped network of roads that connect—but avoid disturbing—each of the neighborhood parks and lead to underground parking facilities. A raised promenade—the “corniche”—allows for walkers, cyclists and golf carts to move in between.
