San Antonio Military Medical Center (SAMMC)

The implementation of the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) legislation led to a major addition and renovation project for the Brooke Army Medical Center, transforming it into the SAMMC campus. It is now a leading center for inpatient and ambulatory care, consisting of a Level 1 Trauma Center and the Defense Department’s only American Burn Association-verified burn center. The new 1 million-SF project includes a rehabilitation clinic, expanded operating room capabilities, a new emergency department, and a new patient bed tower. Upon completion, it was named the largest military medical facility.
