Rethinking Your Workspace

Callison Workplace designers were recently part of a presentation titled “Change Your Space, Change Your Culture,” which explored major challenges facing modern workplaces. In a survey completed with presentation participants, the most pressing of current workplace concerns were:

  • Attraction and retention of talent
  • Workplace culture
  • Employee engagement
  • Leadership changes

Here in the Callison Seattle office, our experiences confirm this consensus. With our rebounding economy, companies are struggling to attract the best talent to remain ahead of the game. Recent studies conducted on offices, such as those found in the revolutionary book Change Your Space, Change Your Culture, examine what companies lose by dismissing the value of workplace design. Revealing facts depict how staff leadership views their space as “overhead” with low priority given to ergonomic design, resulting in poor engagement between employees and their workspace. This is reinforced with findings that suggest more than 70 percent of the workforce despises or feels apathetic about their job.

It is now more important than ever to prioritize workplace design in order to keep employees engaged and motivated, leading to staff retention and higher rates of productivity. The office is a vital, powerful area for productivity and company morale. And it all begins with rethinking your workspace.
